MCPA Sat+Sun day

last weekend at MCPA Theatre was a 2 day musical xtravaganza for social misfits and Akademi Fantasial fanatics

MCPA Day 1: "Three Chords and the Truth"
A showcase of exhibitions, poetry readings (such as Food not Bombs KL as shown on pic above), screenings by indie filmaker Fahmi Reza, and live shows by Dum Dum Tak, Relationsheep, The Mindless Show, The Good Nite Goodies, Plague of Happiness, Full Pledge Munkness, Skatanix, D.E.P, Freygyle, F.S.F, Onani and punkrock vets Carburetor Dung
Dung, soon will released their new material after a long hiatus in the studio, was in their element, and the crowd was in frenzy come their closing number, the anthemic 'Boo Hoo Clapping Song'

JB skapunx mob Plague of Happiness hit the stage after that, fresh from releasing their solid debut album 'Kawan'. Today their horn section is short of a member (Nausad the trombonist couldn't make the trip from south), nevertheless they never fail to impress me with their trademark positive mental attitude songs.  Seeing their performance, it's no coincidence why they are often compared with Japanese greats; Potshot and Kemuri

RESAH AWAN
Tunjukkan aku awan yang selalu mekar dan ceria
Tak endahkan dunia yang selalu bersengketa
Terlalu mementingkan diri terlalu ikut rasa hati
Duduk awan pasrah tak dia berkuasa

KONSPIRASI
benci yang kau semai, seakan luka terlerai
bawakan nanah hitam, yang tak akan berdamai
bilakah ia henti, tak tahan lagi berdiri menanggung caci

KAWAN
Satu lagi nak pesan, Busuk hati janganlah simpan
Nasihat untuk rakan dan taulan, Simpan semua jadi panduan
Sudah 24 tahun, Ilmu didada aku susun
Kalau berkat tak datang turun, Sampah sarap datang berduyun

MCPA Day 2: Horse the Band live in Malaysia

Many,me included, were stoked when it was announced last February that the Lake Forest, California-based band will perform in Malaysia as part of their DIY self-booked, three-month, four-continent, 40-country 'Earth Tour' (Bolehland is the eighth country on the route when they started the marathon in early March).

HORSE the band's music has won them many accolades for energy and originality. Often referred to as a unique form of hardcore/metal called 'Nintendo-Core'(keyboard+synthesizer+LSDJ Game Boy cartridge to achieve an 8-bit video game influenced sound), they have built a sizable worldwide fan base just by being creative and  risen to the forefront of eclectic
and extreme hard rock sound

Their latest release, 'A Natural Death' was dubbed to be 'ambitious and skillful'. Listen to some tracks on their myspace.

Consists of Nathan 'The General', a tormented poet beast on vocals; David Isen the
hyper-intelligent lover on guitar; Erik 'Lord Gold' Engstrom the child-like wizard of
keyboards; Dashielle Han Arkenstone the
gritty urban barbarian on bass and Jon Karel (from Number 12 Looks Like You) the cuddly smut-peddling gourmet as the touring drummer (original drummer Christopher Lyle has left the band to 'pursue other interests' and decided to have 'cereal for breakfast')

for some reason, the air-conditioning inside MCPA  was not functioning (maybe due to the mayhem yesterday?), it was damn freaking hot...in fact it was way much hotter than the Umno Supreme Council meeting, according to Mawi who attended the gig.
Some of the HtB members had to strip down to their bare essentials

Nintendo-core what?  Maybe you could  checkout these clips to find out

For an hour, MCPA witnessed a brutal set and a chaotic moshpit (I believe they could perform longer, if not for the A/C fiasco).

Here's  hoping for more international bands to come to our soil to remind us of what we have missed out since  the days of the universally talented group like Feminin and Empat U Dua C
A note to Kementerian Dalam Negeri and Polis DiRaja Malaysia: No Goat was harm during the course of the above events.  Tan Sri Rahim Noor can keep his boxing gloves off
