world’s tallest building after its financial rescuerIt was heralded as Dubai’s crowning achievement but the cash-strapped emirate was forced to swallow its pride and rename the oil-rich neighbour Abu Dhabi bailed Dubai out of financial collapse with a $10 billion injection last month

The humiliating announcement was made by Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum at the dazzling launch of the $1.5 billion (£930 million) Burj Dubai, which will now be known as Burj Khalifa in honour of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the UAE
the ceremony on 4th january was a sublime synchonisation of dramatic fireworks, fountain and lighting effects.
