Mantel-style Relief Harry Potter Nearing Reality

LONDON - Scientists are now one step closer to creating a coat that allows the wearer invisible as in the phenomenal fantasy novels, Harry Potter.

Hope it sticking out after a new study at the University of Birmingham managed to make a paper clip invisible to the naked eye, such as disitat Telegraph, Wednesday (02/02/2011).

The researchers used the mineral calcite, or crystals that formed naturally, which has the ability to bend light in an extraordinary way. If placed on the object, the crystal will bend light so that makes objects truly invisible to the naked eye.

"This material has a size that can be enlarged. By using natural crystals for the first time, and no artificial materials, we succeeded in increasing the size coat and can hide objects larger, thousands of times greater than light waves," said Dr Zhang Shuang , principal investigator of the University of Birmingham.

This new technique depends on the size of the crystals. Calcite crystals can reach lengths of 21 feet (8.4 meters) that can be used in cars or military vehicles.

"We believe, by using the calcite, we can develop a coat that has a large enough size so that it can be applied in a variety of devices,"concludes Zhang.
