In Victorian Newcastle two rival football clubs were established - Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End. West End, who leased a small ground called St. James', ran into financial trouble and in 1892 representatives from both clubs met and decided to amalgamate, adopting the name Newcastle United. From that day on 'The Magpies' have thrilled and delighted Tyneside with such football greats as Jackie Milburn, Frank Brennan, Malcolm MacDonald and more recently, Chris Waddle and Paul Gascoigne. This video provides a fascinating insight into the players and characters who have made Newcastle United one of the all time greats in football history. It traces the history of Newcastle United Football Club from the club's formation in 1892, through the golden era of the 50's, the arrival of Malcolm Macdonald, to the modern-day heroes who have worn the black and white strip. They include Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle and Paul Gascoigne.
