Reggae hit LAundry

A few months back I had a small chat with Joe Kidd at his Ricecooker shop. Nothing fancy, we just conversed about the scene old and new. Among others he recommended me to checkout  this reggae/soul/funk band The Aggrobeats which he spoken highly of.

A side project of Edy and Bakri (of the Gerhana Skacinta fame), The Aggrobeats draw inspirations from current reggae favourite sons, Los Angeles' The Aggrolites to soul legend James Brown. and when the band was slated to perform at Laundry during the 'Alompak Ago Go' series last week, i was tempted to find out.

As quoted from their Myspace bio; 'an aggressive music with an aggressive attitude on stage, the band crystallized their musical ideals for the genre by cutting down the ska beat and mixed with funk and soul into it '...and they certainly proved that

Vox Hunt: Good Flick

What was the last good movie you watched?

i would have to say the recent Transformers movie (wrote about it on earlier post here and here).  Kind of bring back all the tragic memories of having to catch the cartoon

TV series right on time immediately after religious class back in the late 80s.

Despite mixed reviews from film critics, i would have to say that this 'action+comedy+tons of CGI+some romance(?)' adaptation is Michael Bay's best film yet, after all the duds he produced all this years (remember 'The Island' and 'Pearl Harbour'?)

According to this, Paramount and DreamWorks have ramped up development on a sequel slated to be release on summer of 2009. Stoked?

actually i haven't finished watching this documentary yet... i'm halfway thru,  and its good.

" Do you think this is 1976 and you're talking to the Sex Pistols? Piss off or i'll piss all over you! " This is what Joe Strummer spits at a Brit journalist who draws his ire in an early 80s interview.
Born John Graham Mellor, Strummer was many things - diplomat's son, art-school dropout,  squatter, bandleader, humorist, poet, activist, a coward, a genius and a bully to all who knew him

The man who led The Clash thru their decade (76-86) of punkrock is examined from all angles in The Future is Unwritten, a life spanning doc directed by Julian temple

packed with archival footage of The Clash and slew of good/bad testimonials from former bandmates, ex-girlfriends and celebri-fans (Johnny Depp, John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, Martin Scorsese and U2's Bono)

You can checkout the trailer here

<Kimia Percintaan>

yeah...i know...what a lame title

On Sunday i was offered a last-minute free ticket to the My Chemical  Romance concert in Stadium Merdeka,KL.

Eventhough i'm not into MCR (no offence to any fan who read this); as a typical Malaysian, you should appreciate anything F.O.C

When we reach there the opening bands, local punx One Buck Short (i love 'em to death) and RapRock(?) outfit Pop Shuvit(?) had just finished pumping up the 10,000 or so crowd.

At 2015 Gerard Way & Co came onstage and I think they put on an awesome show in  80-minute blitz (theStar review here).

Fans who missed the boat might want to checkout clips of the show which has since resurfaced on YouTube:
Wecome to the Black Parade, Helena, Cancer, Teenagers, Give Em Hell Kid & The Sharpest Lives

Thanx to Nafeesa and her friends for the RM253 ticket

wish i was there in London

Last nite at O2 Arena London (formerly known as 'Millennium Dome') was the venue of the one-off reunion concert of rock legends LED ZEPPELIN, arguably the most influential rock band of all time.

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John
Paul Jones were joined by the late John Bonham son Jason on drums
for the one-off comeback.

Back in September when organizers announced the show, the O2 Arena site selling tickets crashed as
millions of fans across the world rushed for about 20,000 seats, which was then made available via a lottery system.

After all, this is the band that brought us some defining rock anthems  such as 'Stairway To Heaven', 'Whole Lotta Love' and 'Kashmir' to name a few.

and whether you are a fan of Metallica or Sepultura, or Aerosmith, or U2, or Napalm Death, or Nirvana, or Search/Wings/Feminin, i'm sure there are some influence of Led Zep in their songs.

*update*:this site claimed that they got the 'world's first Led Zeppelin reunion review'. i'll try to embed a clip if i find one.  Meanwhile, please enjoy this one:

hangin out with a beauty when a patrol car pulled-over and ruined the occasion.
damn!

Actually it was a lame scene at a weekend motorshow.  Some fictional(?) fancy police rides were on display, maybe in tune to keep pace with the tech conscious outlaws.

It might be an optical illussion, but doesn't the beauty above (the car, not the lady) bare a cunning resemblance to Barricade, the Decepticon scout from the Transformers movie?

and speaking of Transformers...

Megan Fox kinda rocked in that Motley Crue shirt.
...Tommy Lee and S.M. Salim must be stoked!

QotD: A Life-Changing Work of Art

What work of art (film, book, record, whatever) changed your life?
Submitted by bodhibound.

It might not be life-changing, but apart from all of Siti Nurhaliza's and Mawi's efforts, these 3 records had a huge impact on me:

An  8-vehicle convoy participated in a 2-hour journey to Raub to celebrate the wedding of Kechik and his Bride Azita.

With some of us getting lost somewhere down the road, all were finally there at 4.45pm  when  the guests were long gone, but thankfully the radiant couple and the nasi minyak waited patiently for our arrival

Wedding PokYa01Wedding PokYa02Wedding Pokya03

Pokya, my A-Level-mate tied the knot at the bride's home at Kampung Baru last Sunday.

Apart from the colorful reception, what was nice about the event was the presence of the A-Level black ol years contigent (Awang, Amir, Mat Yus, Senyum,Saryono&family, Nizam K&family, Sedi&family), among of whom i haven't met for quite some time.

It should be more meaningful if only Zawiyah Laidin and Mama Bosan could join us....

Wedding 4: Aidil aka Taoke & Syaibatul (Sungai Penchala, Damansara)

From Kg Baru, i shoot to Sungai Penchala to attend the wedding of my Studio-mate Encik Aidil aka Tokey.  Catching up on ol times with my A-level mates earlier, I arrived there quite late.

Tokey was in jovial mood, he even forced me to try the Minang Bakso instead of the predictable nasi minyak...heheh...Congrats bro!
Some of these pix is courtesy of Rehot, who arrived earlier.
