historic rivalry

El Clásico is a name given to match between football rivals Barcelona FC and Real Madrid. The match that hundreds of millions of people see all over the world. El Clásico is the most popular match in the world. Rivalry is also connected with politics as Real Madrid Spanish nationalism while Barcelona represents Catalan nationalism.
Rivalry started from national level trophies and reached European level in 1960, where Real Madrid defeated Barcelona, but latterly Barcelona FC took revenge by beating Real Madrid in 1961. After a long time, both rivals met again in 2002 in EUEFA Champions league Semi Finals and Real Madrid won that match by 2-0. That match was called "Match of the century". Stage was again set in Madrid in 2005, where Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-0. Ronaldinho was the Hero of the match. Real Madrid is the most following club in Spain that is up to 32%, and is more than any other club. Rivalry strengthened by time due to internal transfers.
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona came head to head on 162 occasions from which Real Madrid was on victory stand 68 times and Barcelona won 64 times. Thirty matches ended as a draw. But in Spanish Cup matches Barcelona FC is well ahead with 22 wins while Real Madrid only won seven times. Since 2008, both rivals were head to head on five Occasions and Real Madrid didn't win any one of those. It is the time for them to rise up for "El Clásico" in Valencia as they will be head to head in Copa Del Rey Final in April 2011.

Real Madrid and Barcelona will be head to head after 21 years in Copa del Rey Final. Last time they met in 1990 that was held at Estadio Luis Casanova, in Valencia and Barcelona won that match 2-0. After a long long time stage is set for another 'El Classico' final. Weapons are strong at both ends as one side has magic of Lionel Messi who has scored hat-trick in this season and the other one has Scissors king Cristiano Ronaldo who also have scored hat-trick this season. If Barcelona has the Energetic Josep Guardiola, Real Madrid have strategy maker Jose Mourinho. If Barcelona have the wall of Carles Puyol and Daniel Alves, Real Madrid have the rocks Sergio Ramos and Pepe. If Barcelona has the intelligent Xavi and Andres Iniesta, Real Madrid on the other hand has the brilliance of Kaka and Mesut Ozil. If Barcelona has accuracy of David Villa, Real Madrid has the perfection of Karim Benzema. It has become impossible to predict what will happen. The soil is same as was before 21 years ago, final is again to be held in Valencia.

Jose Mourinho is bracing himself for another testing meeting with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. The Real Madrid boss is closing in a third European crown, having previously claimed the prize with Porto and Inter Milan. He helped to move his current employers into the last-four of this season's competition on Wednesday after wrapping up a 5-0 aggregate victory over Tottenham. Real know that a tie with arch-rivals Barcelona awaits them in the semi-finals, and Mourinho has previous when it comes to the Catalan giants. He has locked horns with Barca on numerous occasions down the years and claims luck is rarely on his side, with it having become something of a tradition for his team to have a player sent off.

"I have to train with ten men, how to play with ten men," Mourinho told Sky Sports on his plans for a meeting with Pep Guardiola's tournament favourites.
"I go there with Chelsea, I finish with ten. I go there with Inter, I finish with ten. I have to train to play with ten men because it can happen again."
Mourinho was happy to see Real finish the job off against Spurs in midweek, with most of the hard work having been completed during a rousing 4-0 first leg victory. On Wednesday's showdown at White Hart Lane,  which his side won courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo strike which slipped through Heurelho Gomes' grasp, he said: "It was difficult. If they had scored in the first-half, it would have been even more difficult. "They played with a lot of pride, with great motivation and the public were fantastic in getting behind them. They gave us a very difficult match.
"Probably the result shouldn't have been our victory, I think a draw would have been fair and a good bonus for them after what they gave. It was difficult, but of course I am happy to be in the semis."

Manchester United and Schalke will make up the other semi-final and Mourinho admits he would relish the opportunity to test himself against Sir Alex Ferguson at Wembley. "I expect Man U to be there, yes," he said.
"They are the better team. They have a different stature than Schalke at this level. But football is football and Sir Alex will tell his players that you have to respect opponents, even if you know that you are the best team. "I hope Man United is at Wembley and if it is Man U against Real, that would be the perfect final for me."
midweek: work work work... maybe a game if i am lucky, like tuesday.
